On November 13th and 14th,
Tokyo Design Festa Vol.20
was held at Tokyo Big Site.
Young domestic and foreign
creators gathered at huge
exibition halls located on the outskirts
of Tokyo.

He shuffles over to give those who come and go flyers,
with his strange robot like movement. He was handing out
people flyers of his and his buddies' booth all day long.
By the time of the end of the day, his cute feet were crumbed up.

The Design Festa this time had
more drawings, paintings and
Manga/Anime work than fashion.
However, we could meet some
apparel designers.
Japan fashion profiles them on this site.
We went on the wirlwind visit
to each booth, as there were
so many and would not have
been able to visit them all in if we took our time.

J apanese artists tended not to have identity,
in other words, do not have characteristics
in their art to set them apart.
There are so many things that are alike.
In the background of this phenomena,
people brush off artistic fields in Japan.
Comparing to Europe, arts do not come in
contact with ordinary people.

A lot of dancers
were dancing. (Right)
These guys were
creating strange mood.
The movements
can be called as "mai"
in Japanese. However,
it was striking to see
them running around
the stage as if they
were possessed.

Japanese people
tend to be shy so it's rare
to see such spectacular
performances.

Amajor radio station was there
to broad cast live.
Bands were playing loudly outside.
The sound reaches to the back of the hall
as the main gate is left open.

There were many food stalls, Matsuri (Japanese Festival)
fused with a club.
However, it is still Japan. People behave
themselves even if there is a Matsuri going on.
It can be said that is a huge Matsuri that keeps
bare orders and rules. Turkish beer and
shishkebab were excellent and reasonable.
The hall is a non-smoking building. Japanese people
who are good at hiding to smoke had no place to go,
and those smokers had to go outside for a
cigarette.

The numbers of booths are over 1500
every year. There are a quite
number of people who draw and paint at their booths.
Maybe just they could not keep up with time deadlines and just
paint there. Whatver the case they are on show.
Some creators were handing out their flyers and cards.
It may be suitable to give people flyers to this place than
selling "products." Making postcards out of photography
or selling original prints.

The illustrations drawns with hair stroke based on comic
style and animation Works that were inspired by
animation occupy a quarter of the total paintings and
drawings. One of them used photography and lights,
making his booth his art work.

About the half of the booths were drawings and
paintings and the rest were
photography, character goods, and other unidentified
booths. As a result, they mix together to create an
exciting mood in the hall.

She paints on cardboards with her hand. She didn't
stop painting from the opening to the closing time.
She had some kind of power to attract people, and there were
dense crowd of people around her. She also had a collection
of poems. In her poem, she wrote about her self
agonizing cries. Suppose she cannot get out of her own
agonies, so she just keeps painting.
