Hillside Terrace..

"folksy" BGM
The "Tornado Fashion Show" was held in Hillside Terrace in Daikanyama, Shibuya on Dec. 10. It was organized by the alumni of the Tokyo Design Academy. The fashion show was held to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Academy's alumni association which was founded in 1985.

The show entitled "Winds of Change" brought together the talents of creators of different genres. Creators of fashion, art, illustration, photography, painting, architecture, interior design, ceramics were showcased. Eight different fashion labels were presented as well as live contemporary dance.

Mizuki Tohyama is a self-taught fashion designer. He created his own fashion label MZK1 which features original designs for men. Tohyama's inspiration for his designs come from the animal and graphic elements found in nature. His casual style is created by a technique called the "slash quilt" which entails juxtaposing different pieces of fabric onto one another and making cuts into them.

Eiko Ohkawa created ZIGZAG, a fashion line in the Gothic tradition which specializes in wedding dresses. Ohkawa uses classical and gossamer lace as well as hand-dyed fabrics. Her aim is to make clothes that are comfortable to wear. ZIGZAG custom-makes dresses to fit the individual needs and desires of clients.

Masae Watanabe's fashion line VITALIZE literally wishes to make wearers feel warm and merry! Watanable's creative inspiration is guided by the rush of feelings that flow through the spirit as she approaches the "nothingness" of a blank drawing board. Designing clothing is her way of expressing her original ideas and creativity.
