| Soundtracks "You're back." I took a seat next to him. On the ground beside us a small flock of strangely dressed high school girls had settled, seemingly unconcerned by the hungry eyed young lions close by. "So what is it today?" "The Book of Laughter and Forgetting" I replied, handing it over. He briefly scanned the cover and then popped it into the large nylon backpack resting by his feet. The subtle scent of vanilla tingled like invisible dust in the air. "Remember the world you used to have?" "Not really." i muttered, loosening the ring on my finger. " I said my farewells a suicide and six thousand miles ago." "That's no good, no good at all." My friend looked up at the starless night sky for a moment and began to hum a hauntingly familiar melody from an abandoned soundtrack in my life. Cosmic diamonds reappeared in the canvas above and summoned me to a place where drunken friends leapt as one from ancient bridges and young love scattered stones at my window. My very own Erotic City. History What was the most difficult thing when you became a designer? I'm not sure. From the practical aspect to the technical side, what was the most difficult part of the design process? Probably the patterns. Concept What's the main inspiration behind The Erotic City? Mainly music and photography. Musicians and photographs from the periods I admire have been the subject of my work. The influence from people has been great. Glaswegian bands from the mid 80s and 90s, such as Jesus & Mary Chain and Primal Scream have inspired my work a lot for example. What's the brand concept? I can only partly explain it with words, but my work represents a period of longing, music, people, my own homage to the clothes and photographs of youth culture, graphics, and so on. What's been the inspiration for your latest collection? I haven't stuck to just one theme for this collection. During the planning stage, the music I was mainly listening to was by a band called Prinzhorn Dance School. They provided the framework for the spring/summer collection as I tried to imagine what kind of clothes they would wear and work from that. What is style for you? I think it's knowing your heroes. The clothes are? Colour, silhouette, textile and facial expression. The word is? Glasgow Future Do you have any ambitions or future objectives for The Erotic City? I'm not really sure about ambition, but I want to raise the quality, search for the kids who can reflect on my own reality and leave them behind as pictures. Are you considering going international? Sure, it's very important to me that as many people as possible be able to see my work. you can join here http://www.myspace.com/theeroticcitytokyoAshantha Japan-Fashion.com |
