Esporpleiv
Launched earlier this year, we're proud to be the first to introduce you to a brand we had the privilege of meeting only a month ago.
Designer Noriyasu Takahashi has already released several collections and held a number of exhibitions showcasing Esporpleiv garments ahead of the spring fashion season.
Colour is inherent to each and every exhibition and provides a show with its own peculiar atmosphere. Although it can sometimes sway the perception of a designer and brand, others argue that "colour has little effect if the designer has something special to offer".
Having completed a brisk lap around a sprawling exhibition hall we found his booth on our way to the exit gate. Dresses dove out with fascinatingly elegant texture and beautifully conspicuous drapes. Noticing two stylish, yet somewhat out of place gentlemen with shaved heads standing in the back, we stopped in our tracks.
Was I the only one who felt vaguely excluded?
All the more, I was curious about the two men who stood by the dresses.
Esporpleiv is a coined word.
The meaning of this enigmatic term becomes clearer if read in reverse, "veil propose", which was originally the brand name in fact. It implies concealing identity though not akin to superficiality.
Furthermore, "beautiful women" expressing the elegance and atmosphere reflective of the time coupled with originality and spirit is a central concept behind the brand. |

Designer Noriyasu Takahashi was born in the Aichi prefecture of Japan in 1978.
Having graduated from Bunka Fashion College he went on to build a domestic and international career as a modeler before officially establishing Esporpleiv in January 2009 with his 2009/10 AW collection.
"Likes and tastes are not biased, but are made up of the sublime, the hard, the vulgar, and poor taste in a balanced manner". The words of French artist Marcel Duchamp that Takahashi is particularly fond of: equating to the additional value of individuality before everything else as the element of creation.
From my knowledge from anecdotes about Duchamp's New York Ind?pendant exhibition, its essence can be seen here and there in Esporpleiv.
Takahashi's ambition to design sprang from a desire to create by his own world view.
Q: Why dresses?
A: Because dresses were the clearest platform to express the brand concept.
Their features form beauty and there is such a significant structural difference when compared with other pieces of clothing.
One can also draw out deep expression by aligning different silks. |

Q: What images or desires do you have when designing? Or, what is it that is fundamentally by you?
A: Regardless of the shape, People understand "things" more deeply from the word and the image associated with them. However, the word and the image often plant preconceptions of the "thing", thereby trivializing what it truly is. I think this is a terrible waste.
Of course, the purpose of an object lies within it. However, it's potential is not restricted to that.
Therefore, I try to dispel the preconceptions of "things" formed in the word and the image. A variety of possibilities can arise from "things" by doing so.
For instance, is the pencil a tool only to write with?
Throwing away the preconception formed in the word and the image, and the possibility of "things" that comes into view is the source of my creation, and the axis of the philosophical thinking to creation. |

Q: Do you have any difficulties at present?
A: I've never thought about it. I'm more the type who keeps striving until they fulfill their aims.
Q:What activities are you particularly focusing on now?
A: Pragmatically speaking, it's PR since we're still a young brand.
Q: What would you do if you weren't a fashion designer?
A: I enjoy fishing very much so perhaps some line of work related to that.
Q: What do you think of recent fashion in Japan?
A: Although choice has increased with subdivision, I think it would be better to see each person's identity become more enriched.
When we were taking pictures in the studio, it took the same time as one cutting in order to draw out the shadow of the dress. This is because each layer can be formed to slightly alter the overall expression.
Although atmosphere (color) is indeed important, it's intentions only lie over the details. The details also demand.
Q: What kind of career do you want in the future? Please tell us your vision or dream.
A: I want the brand to evolve faithfully with the concept.
Q: What is fashion for you? A: Like friends.
