Soft Machines are approaching.

Something new was born here in Tokyo. Its called "Soft Machine" - the latest fashion collection of intriguing designer Mista Mista.
It stands along among all countless pretty floral trends like black and white monolith.
Short-spoken it is like it's mechanical prototype. Yet carrying the message, many before tried to reach through metal shells.

And so Mista Mista talks.

Q: Why is your new collection imbued with mechanisms and machines? Are you trying to make humans becoming a mechanical object?

No. Not in the way everybody expects it to be.
It is all about shape and new cut that fascinates me. I saw one of those wonderful mechanical objects and at the exact moment decided to transform those lines into clothes. It took about half a year to come to this concept. Half a year of thinking about machines.

Q: Why is the black color?

Because Mista Mista wanted to purify the image. To get rid of strings, which bind your imagination to some kind of pattern. And to wipe off the feeling of the material. Also because black absorbs lines.
But actually Mista Mista doesn't emphasize the color as element in making clothes.
There is no special point using black and not using other colors.

"It took me about half a year to come to this concept. mista mista was thinking about machines. And after a while mista mista already was wondering what if I make clothes from those machines. So mista mista started from the shape."

There are many fine artists and fine fashion collections in Tokyo, yet my heart skipped a bit when I entered this futuristic space and saw that dress.
It's cut one of the most unique you can imagine. Truly elegant and soft, but at the same time there is no doubt in its mechanic origins. Sleeves are shaped into black pentagons. Clear lines are balancing its frustum silhouette. Covered with hundreds of buttons, it's top glitters in the ambient light.

Q: Why did mista mista mostly focus on woman's clothes?

Because of all possibilities for such kind of special cut. Contents come after shape.

There are screens on the walls displaying soft movements of non-human shapes.

Q: Those video installations - are they also part of mista mista's conception?

At some point it could be hard to understand the message put in these clothes.
That's why mista mista gathered all items in one place and extended the boarders of perception into video and music. They are also part of my collection and tune you up to the right rhythm. But at the same time, movie alone could be some kind of a catch for the designer. What if nobody watches it? On the other hand, if somebody takes clothes with him or with her, wear them, which means your ideas are literally starting their own independent motion.

Q: Who is this woman, wearing mechanical geometry dress? Dose mista mista think about any particular type when creating your clothes?

Actually no. mista mista dosen't imagine certain face. Everything is about inner feeling of freedom. It fills everything around with subtle currents of endless space.

Q: When does the feeling of conclusion come?

As soon as mista mista decide the concept of shape. Even before clothes are properly cut and sewed.

Q: This is your 3rd collection. How dose mista mista see its future?

And at this question we both smile.

Mista Mista doesn't see the possibility for making fashion show with walking models.
Instead Mista Mista wants to focus on the exhibitions as an opportunity to show simple clothes. And there is already concept for the next collection. Creating something, spreading your ideas is the process you can never actually stop. Like ray of the light, flying through the space.
